MONTGOMERY COUNTY – A man and a woman have been arrested and charged and deputies say they were running a mobile home theft ring in Montgomery County.

Austin Ray Burkes, 22, and Kayla Jean Berger, 23, have both been charged with felony theft.

Deputies said they started investigating the duo after receiving a call saying the couple was trying to sell a mobile home without the owner’s consent.

Investigators said Berger and Burkes would contact people through various means online, meet the victims at their homes, take a down payment or provide a bill of sale after taking large sums of money and then block all communication with the victims.

On July 22, Berger and Burkes were arrested.

“I am so proud of our Deputies, they consistently go the extra mile, dig extra deep and work these cases to the very end,” Constable Hayden said.

Deputies believe there may be more possible victims who were scammed by the suspects. If anyone has any further information about possible victims, contact dispatch at 936.760.5800 and ask to speak with a Pct. 4 Deputy.
